Frequently asked questions

Will the engineer connect my humidifier/dehumidifier to the services and BMS?

All services should be connected to the humidifier or dehumidifier prior to the commissioning engineer arriving on site. The commissioning engineer will be validating the installation and setting-up the unit, but will not connect it to services like water, drain and power. This should happen during the installation.

Any connections to a building management system (BMS) will need to be carried out by other specialist controls engineers.

Will the engineer fix any install issues during the commissioning visit?

If the engineer identifies minor installation problems that can be resolved quickly and safely (such as adjusting hose routing, tightening connections, or correcting wiring), these are often fixed during the commissioning visit as part of the service.

If there are significant installation faults (e.g., missing water supply, incorrect equipment positioning, or non-compliance with safety standards), the engineer will document these issues and advise the responsible party (installer or contractor) to correct them. The commissioning visit may be paused or rescheduled until the site is ready.

Do I need to do anything prior to the commissioning visit?

What do I need to do on the day of the commissioning?

Ensure all necessary security clearances, passes, and inductions are completed before the engineer arrives. If the humidifier is installed at height (over 2.5m), suitable access equipment must be available. The area around the humidifier must be clear and safe for the engineer to work. A responsible person should be present to sign-off works and parts used.

It is strongly recommended to have the controls engineer or BMS specialist on site during commissioning. This ensures that the humidifier can be fully integrated and tested with the BMS or other control systems. Many issues arise when controls are not connected or active, leading to delays and potential return visits. For complex projects, it may be beneficial to have the main contractor, AHU manufacturer or other key suppliers present to resolve any integration issues on the spot.
