Scalable and Reliable Performance

Condair’s adiabatic solutions are engineered for continuous, low-maintenance operation and can be customized to integrate seamlessly with any data center design for reliable, mission-critical performance.

Evaporative Cooling in Data Centers

It is estimated that data centers consume 1 to 1.5% of global electricity, with some projections suggesting by 2030 this figure could be 3 to 4%. Cooling typically accounts for 30 to 40% of this energy use.

Direct and indirect evaporative cooling systems offer data centers a 30-70% energy reduction when compared to compressor-driven refrigeration. Evaporative cooling can enhance free-air cooling when outdoor temperatures exceed indoor requirements and can improve heat rejection in hybrid liquid cooling systems.

Condair provides standard and custom evaporative cooling solutions for data centers. The Condair ME in-duct system offers efficient, scalable cooling, while Kuul Evaporative Media can be used in AHUs or OEM cooling products to maximize evaporative performance.

Data Center Humidification

Low indoor humidity can lead to electrostatic discharge, potentially damaging electronics and affecting server performance in data centers. For this reason, standard data center design commonly specifies a minimum humidity level of 20% RH.

To achieve this humidity alongside a supply air temperature of 64.4°F (18°C), any data center in a climate that drops to 32°F (0°C) will need to use humidification at some time of the year.

Condair has a comprehensive range of humidifiers for data centers, ranging from steam units for CRAC systems to fully customized evaporative technologies for penthouse ventilation of hyperscale data centers.

Data Center Dehumidification

High humidity in data centers presents a risk of condensation on cold surfaces, such as server racks, underfloor air plenums and chilled water lines. This in turn could lead to short circuits and equipment failure, or mold growth and structural damage.

ASHRAE recommends a maximum 80% RH humidity in A1 and A2 data centers for this reason. However, typical design condition is often a maximum of 60% RH.

Condair works with major data center operators around the world to keep humidity levels optimal whilst minimizing energy consumption. Desiccant technologies can be employed with heat recovery options to make the most of the waste heat generated in data centers, whilst condensing systems offer flexibility and ease of installation.

Apple Campus, Cupertino

Cupertino, California, located close to San Francisco, is home to the headquarters of American technology company Apple. The building was designed by British architect Norman Foster, who realized the idea of an oversized ring in connection with the former Apple Campus at Infinite Loop No. 1 in Cupertino.

At a diameter of almost half a mile, the building complex offers a massive 2.8 million sq ft of usable space and accommodates 12,000 employees. The ring surrounds a 1.4 million sq ft park featuring rest areas, cafés, sports facilities and a rainbow-colored festival stage that was inaugurated by Lady Gaga in 2018. Powered entirely by renewable energy, the building features a 17-megawatt rooftop solar array and energy-efficient evaporative cooling from Condair.

evaporative humidifiers at microsoft data centre

Microsoft, Ireland

Microsoft Dublin uses an "open air cooling" system rather than mechanical chillers to maintain the low internal temperatures required around its servers. Fresh air is continuously introduced into the building and mixed with recirculated indoor air.

35 Condair evaporative humidifiers provide up to 8C of energy-efficient evaporative cooling to its huge data rooms. This combined use of fresh air and evaporative cooling has enabled the data center to eliminate the need for mechanical cooling for 95% of the year.
