2018 Healthcare Symposium Features Cutting-Edge Presentations on Clinicians’ and Engineers’ Shared Role in Improving Patient Outcomes
Ottawa, Canada – April 23, 2018 - Experts in medicine, microbiology, architecture, engineering and management of the healthcare environment will share frontline experiences and address challenges to improve patient care and healthcare quality at the 2018 Healthcare Symposium on May 10 at the Joseph Martin Harvard Medical School Conference Center.
This event, in its second year, brings together science and industry for solution-focused discussions on improving the healthcare environment. Speakers include lifestyle guru and physician Dean Ornish, M.D.; Rahul Rastig, M.D., vice president and chief operations officer, Northwest Kaiser Permanente; Stephanie Taylor, M.D., of the Harvard Medical School Healthcare-Associated Infections Organization; and Rear Admiral Jeffrey Brady, M.D., Director of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality’s (AHRQ) Center for Quality Improvement and Patient Safety, among others. Speakers will share their insights on engineering, infection control, quality measurement, improving patient outcomes, the built environment and human factors.
The day-long conference features two panel discussions in which speakers will interact with one another about why change is needed to better protect patients and what those future efforts might look like.
“Looking at just a handful of hospital-acquired conditions from about 2010 to 2015, we’ve seen a 21% improvement in our ability to prevent harm,” said AHRQ’s Dr. Brady. “We still have a long way to go, though, and I’m looking forward to sharing insights on how we can continue to move the needle.”
